Are lash extensions right for you?

So you’ve seen your work bestie getting around looking all fly lately. She’s told you how easy it is for her to do her makeup in the morning but she has also complained about them poking her in the eye occasionally. She also mentioned that they took 2 hours to do. And you just don’t understand how she could fit that in to her schedule.

You hold out, 2 weeks go by and she’s looking like a bit worse for wear. She said she can’t book in for another week and she’s getting desperate, and all of a sudden you realise, these things don’t last forever. Also, she thinks her natural lashes are suddenly gone too????? Wtf has this woman done to herself??

This is normal, yo!

Lashes shed!! Most people don’t know this, but lash extensions are attached to each individual lash, not the eye lid! This means, they will shed as your natural lashes shed. Who knew! In fact, we lose 20% of our lashes every 2 weeks. So yeah, the fancy new extension is also falling out, sorry, it’s as permanent as I can do.

Will they actually poke me in the eye?

Listen, it’s a small price to pay!

No, I’m kidding. They often get out of place, and sometimes the odd one starts to annoy you just like your siblings do, but we love them anyway.

The easiest way to fix this is to brush them daily, sometimes more than once, and especially after cleansing and in the morning. But don’t worry; you’ll leave your appoin

tment with plenty of lash brushes to stash in every crevasse so you’ll never be left with lashes poking north, south, east as well as

west! As your lash tech, I will also provide you with all the lash care information you will ever need. No one ever lashes alone!

Do they actually take two hours?

The first initial appointment will take two hours. Sometimes more. But this is because I’m taking extra care, separating each lash and placing one to 10 falsies on each baby eye hair.

But this is your free time. You can nap, talk politics (I can’t contribute to this but I’m a great listener), you can listen to your podcast, or talk smack about your mother-in-law (again, great listener).

Infills are usually 1.5-2 hours depending on the thickness. In an infill appointment, we inspect how they have grown with your natural lash, remove twisted or out of place extensions and give them a good cleanse!

We also offer a ½ hour express infill, basically where I shove (carefully of course) as many lashes as I can in 30 minutes. This is great for those short on time, anyone that likes weekly infills or great for a once off if you need them fresh for a weekend away. I will work around you to make it work for you!

Do you sleep on your face?

Yeah same; it’s the most comfortable, duh!

And subconsciously, were rubbing our eyes in our sleep. As well as awake. We just don’t realise we are doing it. I understand my grave error when my lashes are freshly infilled and I rub some off but I’m sure to take a minute of silence for each fallen brother.

This is a small habit, that over time, you learn to do less, thus longer lasting eye hairs.

While you’re here, you’ll also have to learn to stop pulling your lashes out when you’re frustrated, but it’s okay - you’ll be super relaxed after a lash nap!

Do you work outdoors?

Yes? Don’t worry, lashes might still be for you!!

If you work in a really dusty environment, you need to be taking extra care of your lashes and be aware when rubbing your eyes. To ensure you can get the longest time out of your lashes, wash them with a soapy, eye safe cleanser DAILY. You may need infills more regularly than your girlfriend that works in accounting.

Dirt/dust can often get between the lash and false lash, lifting them away from each other. Think of you hugging your man and a small child comes between you screaming “MY DADDY” while prying your arms away from each other. Yeah, I just referred to my children as dirt.

Hay fever?

Depending on the severity of your hay fever, you can still have bomb lashes! As it is with dusty environments too, you MUST cleanse the daily. Lashes work as filters for the eyes, so naturally, they will catch dust and debris.

Obviously we want them to last forever

So here is how you can get the most out of your newest investment.

Booking regular appointments is key! If you schedule the appointment before leaving the studio, it’s like booking in ‘alone’ time. It’s basically therapy! And no one can deny your of basic healthcare!! We recommend visits between two – four weeks; two weeks for newbies, and as you become an OG, you can graduate to longer time between visits.

Don’t pull on them!! This in the long term can cause issues with growth of the natural lash if damage is caused to the lash follicle. So if you need them removed, see your lash tech!!

If you’re still reading this, then I haven’t scared you away. Which is amazing because now you’re mine forever *insert cute/evil giggle*

No but seriously, it sounds like a lot. It seems overwhelming and you’re thinking “stuff that, not worth it”, but it’s not and its 100% worth it! Your work bestie isn’t crazy, she knows her stuff. These small tips become second nature and you will soon have fluffy eyeballs that last four weeks!

Book a consultation and come to the dark side! (by that I mean dark lashes of course!!)

(Fun game: now take a shot for every time I said ‘lashes’.)
